Week 3 Discussion Question 2

"There is no evil that the father's love cannot pardon and cover, there is no sin that is a match for his grace: (p. 24)

How can this be seen in the parable, in other Bible stories, or in your own experience?

We first looked at the qualities of Grace:

Grace is an expression of unconditional love that is timeless - not fixed at any particular point in time, is continuous, and eternal.

Grace can be bestowed more than once upon a person in varying circumstances, such as even when the unexpected occurs.

Grace is impartial. This is illustrated in the story by the father offering grace to each son. He loves each son equally.

We also compared the two brother's responses to grace.

The older brother did not see a need for grace because he thought he was in control, as things were going well for him, and because he had done nothing wrong.

The younger brother was open to grace, but only after he had hit bottom.

  2. Some other Bible stories:

Acts 9:1-19 - Jesus appeared to Saul on the road to Damascus, at a time when Saul was persecuting Christians.

Matt. 26:69-75 - Jesus forgave Peter after he had denied him 3 times.
